Nathan's letter dated 2-18-13

Howdy!

Hey guys this week went by super-fast, right? I had a really crazy week with a few highlights and funny stories. First, on Thursday my mission president came up to our pension and we had awesome interviews. I always get so pumped to work hard after an interview with president Kähnlein. We got a brand new microwave, and I have been living off oatmeal and cinnamon (really tasty) and bananas. Today we had an activity with all of the missionaries of the city in our chapel. We played soccer and basketball and ate churripan (hotdog but better tasting things). I put on sunscreen, but still got pretty burnt! This whole week I have put on 50 SPF sunscreen and my nose has gotten more and more burnt, yikes!!

This week we were able to find some excellent new families to teach, one of them being a family of 8 kids and 1 mom. Wow!! She is one super mom and they are all talented kids that play instruments and have lots of faith in God. Her husband died about a year and a half ago, and she has been looking for the answer to where he is and what he is doing right now. Her church told her that when her husband died, he entered into an endless dream and completely forgot about his wife and 8 children. In her heart, she always thought that he was aware of her situation and still loved her. We were able to answer her question and show her from the scriptures that her husband is conscience of her and her children and still loves them and is worried about them. Death is not the end of existence, it is but the beginning of a life without end. If you want more information about these truths, you can read in Alma 40 in the Book of Mormon, or read 1 Corinthians 15 in the holy bible.

Funny story for the week: My companion and I were traveling in a taxi from one appointment to the next, when we came to a stoplight. We pulled up next to a car full of little girls and their mom. One of them asked my companion if he had a girlfriend. He said no, and all of the girls turned around and started looking at us and giggling. Apparently, it was the very first time they had ever seen or talked to a gringo (American). So this girl asked my companion if he would be her boyfriend and if they could go on a date. My companion was so shocked he didn`t know what to say! Luckily, the taxi pulled past them and we left them behind. haha the taxi driver and I couldn`t stop laughing the rest of the trip.

Here is my scripture for the week:

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Cor. 10:13"

Love ya,
